Church Construction Update
[July 28] Construction of Opal Baptist Church made significant progress today in many areas. Inside the building work on the heating system was essentially completed until it can be tested. Installation of dry wall and spackling moved ahead and is nearly complete, thanks to the many men that pitched in. Metal door frames were installed and some of the electrical devices installed, such as ceiling fans in two of the rooms. The floor also received attention with the patching/grouting of cracks and saw cuts in preparation for installation of tile and carpeting. And trim work got underway.
On the outside, several men tackled the last remaining bits of vinyl siding, trim and soffit installation - just some work on the porch remains. Further reinforcement of the framing for the steeple was completed and a crane operator is scheduled to be on site early in the morning to lift it into place.
In the afternoon a building inspector came by for a preliminary walk through. He was quite impressed with what has been done but unfortunately he did identify the need to rework the stairs leading up to the baptistery to make them wider to meet the building code. The work crew immediately set to work to make this change. This did affect the ability to complete all dry wall installation today one of the last area being worked on was in this area.
Please continue to pray for everyone's safety and that all remaining work will go smoothly! There is still a lot to do inside the building with completion of the drywall, spackling, trim installation, painting, flooring installation, and installation of most of the electrical components.
